When should I book an Easter 2027 holiday from the UK?
Short answer: if you are travelling over the school holidays, book your Easter 2027 holiday this autumn, or by New Year at the latest. Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027, which is unusually early, and family rooms, the best flight times and popular ski chalets for that fortnight are already being snapped up.
Here is our practical guide on when to book an Easter 2027 holiday from the UK, where is warm at the end of March, whether Easter skiing is worth it, and how to make the most of flying from Northamptonshire.
The short answer: book this autumn, or by New Year at the latest
Easter is one of the busiest school holidays of the year, and in 2027 it comes round sooner than many families expect. Easter Sunday is more than a week earlier than in 2026 (5 April), so the booking window is shorter, and the usual January and February rush will be competing for availability that is already filling up.
If your dates are fixed by the school calendar, aim to have your flights and hotel secured by the end of this year. If you are flexible, travelling outside the two school weeks gives you more choice, but the key Easter dates themselves are best booked early.
When are the Easter 2027 school holidays?
School holiday dates vary by council, and academies and free schools can set their own, so always check with your child's school. As an example, West Northamptonshire Council has set these dates for its community and voluntary controlled schools:
Last day of term: Thursday 25 March 2027.
Easter holiday: Friday 26 March to Friday 9 April 2027.
Bank holidays: Good Friday 26 March and Easter Monday 29 March 2027.
Back to school: Monday 12 April 2027.
Many families will want to fly out on Friday 26 or Saturday 27 March, so those departure days are usually among the first to fill. If you can travel a day or two later, it often opens up better flight times and room choices.
Why booking early matters more for Easter 2027
The early date is already moving the market. A few signs from the travel industry:
Ski bookings are surging: ski operator Heidi reports its Easter bookings are up 139% year on year, with the earlier Easter shifting demand forward (Breaking Travel News).
Main Easter week is filling: French ski specialist Peak Retreats says bookings for the main Easter week are 42% up on last year (InTheSnow).
Flights are on sale: easyJet has put more than 27 million seats on sale for travel between 22 March and 13 June 2027, including the Easter holidays (easyJet).
Packages released early: TUI released its winter 2026/27 programme early so customers can secure Easter getaways well in advance, with free child places and low deposit options available (Travel Weekly).
In short, the airlines and tour operators have their Easter 2027 programmes on sale now, and early planners are already booking. Waiting rarely produces a bargain on peak school-holiday dates; it usually just narrows the choice.
Where's warm at the end of March?
Late March is early spring in much of Europe, so if sunshine is the priority, it pays to choose carefully. These are the destinations we most often suggest for Easter sun from the UK:
The Canary Islands: the most reliable short-haul choice for warmth at Easter, with Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura all easy to reach from UK airports.
Cyprus: pleasant spring weather that is ideal for sightseeing, coastal walks and long lunches, though it is usually too early in the year for guaranteed beach heat.
Egypt (Red Sea): Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada are a strong bet for proper sunshine and warm sea at the end of March, with plenty of all-inclusive family resorts.
Long-haul: the Caribbean, Dubai, Mexico and parts of Asia are popular for a bigger Easter trip. Long-haul family rooms at Easter are limited, so these are worth booking early.
Turkey and mainland Spain and Portugal can work too if you are happy with mild spring weather rather than beach heat. We can talk through the best fit for your children's ages, your budget and how long you are happy to fly. Our beach holidays and family holidays pages give a feel for the trips we arrange.

Easter skiing in 2027: is it worth it?
For families who love the mountains, Easter 2027 looks like a particularly good year to ski. Because Easter falls on 28 March, it is earlier in the season than in recent years, which is a big reason ski operators are reporting such strong demand.
Easter skiing also tends to mean longer, sunnier days and a more relaxed feel on the slopes than the February half-term peak. Higher-altitude resorts are the safest choice for late-season snow, and large family chalets and ski-in, ski-out hotels in the most popular resorts are already being booked.
If you are weighing up Easter against February, our guide on when to book a February half-term ski holiday covers the half-term option.

Flying from Northamptonshire
One of the advantages of living in Northamptonshire is the choice of airports within easy reach. Each has its strengths:
East Midlands: a convenient option for many in the county. TUI has added new routes from East Midlands to Antalya in Turkey and Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt in its winter 2026/27 programme (TUI).
London Luton: a busy hub for short-haul flights, with easyJet among the airlines operating there.
Birmingham: a wide choice of short-haul and package holiday routes from across the Midlands.
The London airports: Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted open up the widest choice of long-haul flights for a bigger Easter adventure.
When dates are fixed, the right airport can make a big difference to flight times and availability. We will compare the options for you, so you are not spending evenings checking four airports yourself.

FAQs
When is Easter 2027?
Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027, with Good Friday on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March. School Easter holidays vary by council; in West Northamptonshire they run from Friday 26 March to Friday 9 April 2027.
Is it cheaper to book Easter holidays early or last minute?
For fixed school-holiday dates, booking early usually gives you the best choice of flights, rooms and resorts, and early offers such as free child places and low deposits tend to be released well ahead. Last-minute deals do appear, but rarely on the exact dates, airport and hotel a family needs.
Do I need ETIAS for an Easter trip to Europe?
Not at the moment. ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorisation for visitors such as UK passport holders, is not running yet and has no confirmed start date. You can follow updates on the official EU ETIAS website, and we will keep our clients posted.
Can I secure an Easter holiday with a small deposit?
Often, yes. Many tour operators offer low deposit options on package holidays, with the balance due closer to departure. TUI, for example, has low deposit options on its early-release programme. We will explain the deposit and balance dates before you book.
Is my Easter holiday financially protected?
Yes. Holidays booked through Westaway Travel are ATOL and ABTA protected through our partners at Not Just Travel, so your money is protected if something goes wrong with a supplier.
