Beyond Santorini: The Luxury Honeymoons Couples Are Booking for 2027
Greece is the most popular luxury honeymoon destination for 2027, according to Virtuoso’s 2027 Luxe Report, ahead of Bali and the Maldives. The twist is where in Greece: the couples I’m planning for are looking beyond Santorini and Mykonos to quieter islands such as Milos, Paros and Crete, often paired with the Athens Riviera.
I’m Becky, and I plan luxury honeymoons from our base in Northampton for couples right across the UK. Here’s what the new rankings mean in practice, and how I’d shape a 2027 honeymoon around them.
Why is Greece the top honeymoon destination for 2027?
Virtuoso surveyed more than 3,100 travel advisors in over 50 countries for its annual Luxe Report. Greece took the number one honeymoon spot for 2027, ending Italy’s long run at the top, and it also ranked fourth among the most popular luxury destinations overall (Euronews coverage of the report).
It doesn’t surprise me. Greece gives you sunsets, beaches, extraordinary food and history in one trip, with short flights from the UK and a growing choice of genuinely luxurious small hotels. For a couple who want romance without a long-haul journey, it ticks almost every box.

Which Greek islands are couples choosing beyond Santorini?
Santorini is still beautiful, but it’s busy, especially on days when several cruise ships are in. Advisors quoted around the report noted couples asking for something more relaxed and authentic without giving up luxury. These are the places I’m suggesting most:
Milos: volcanic coastline, the moon-like white rocks of Sarakiniko and dozens of beaches, with a slower pace that suits couples who want to unwind.
Paros: pretty villages, good restaurants and easy ferry links, so it works well as part of a two-island trip.
Crete: Greece’s largest island, great for mixing beach days with history, food and some of the country’s most spacious resorts.
Athens Riviera: newer luxury hotels on the coast just outside the city, so you can see the Acropolis and then retreat to the sea before heading to the islands.
If you have your heart set on Santorini, I’d still include it. I just tend to keep it to two or three nights and choose a hotel away from the busiest viewpoints.

What else made the 2027 honeymoon top ten?
Greece leads, but the full list shows how varied honeymoons have become. In order, Virtuoso’s top ten for 2027 is Greece, Bali, the Maldives, Italy, French Polynesia, Japan, Fiji, France, Thailand and South Africa.
For UK couples I often split it like this: Greece or Italy for a summer honeymoon close to home; the Maldives for pure barefoot luxury, especially in our winter; and Japan or South Africa for couples who want a real adventure. If you’re weighing up winter sun, my guide to the Canaries, Maldives and Mauritius goes into more detail.

Could a luxury cruise be your honeymoon?
The same report placed the Greek islands third among the most popular cruise itineraries, behind the Mediterranean as a whole and Alaska. A small-ship luxury cruise is a lovely way to see several islands without packing and unpacking, and it pairs well with a few nights in a hotel before or after.
Explora Journeys, Silversea and Regent Seven Seas are the lines I’d look at first for couples, with Viking a good option if you prefer a more relaxed, adults-focused style. Itineraries and dates change each season, so I check exactly what’s sailing for your dates rather than promising a route. My comparison of Explora, Silversea and Regent explains how they differ.
When should you start planning a 2027 honeymoon?
As early as you can once your wedding date is set. The smaller boutique hotels on the Greek islands have limited suites, and the best rooms for June to September go first. Starting early also gives you time to think about the order of islands, ferry or flight connections, and any special touches for the trip.
How I plan your honeymoon
I start with a conversation about what you both picture: beaches or culture, villa or hotel, one place or several. Then I put together a tailored itinerary, handle the bookings and stay on hand while you’re away. Flight-inclusive packages are ATOL protected through Not Just Travel, and I’ll confirm the protection that applies to your booking before you pay.
Honeymoon FAQs
Is Greece warm enough for a honeymoon in May or October?
Generally yes for sightseeing and relaxed beach days, though the sea is cooler than in high summer. I’ll talk you through what to expect for your dates and islands.
Can we combine Greece with another destination?
Yes. Athens plus two islands is a popular shape, and some couples add a few nights in Italy or a short luxury cruise.
Do you only plan honeymoons for couples in Northamptonshire?
Not at all. We’re based in Northampton, but I plan trips for couples all over the UK, by phone, email or in person.
